As a Communications Specialist, you will work closely with our Comms Lead – EMEA Professional Services (EMEA PS) to amplify the EMEA PS organisation.
The comms function is new to the EMEA PS organisation so this is a great opportunity to contribute to different facets of corporate communications: from strategy and planning to employee engagement to content creation and platform building.
Our goal is to increase awareness of EMEA Professional Services within the wider company so that our peers understand the key role we play in service adoption.
You will get to interact with colleagues from across the EMEA region and gain deeper understanding of how and why effective communications is critical in a company where there are always a million moving parts.
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
The key objectives of this position are to help:
1. Increase the awareness of the EMEA Professional Services organisation in the wider VMware EMEA region
2. Improve employee engagement in a highly dispersed, remote team
You will do this by working with the Comms Lead to:
Build relationships with key stakeholders to develop compelling content established around core themes for the year
Brainstorm creative ways to build engagement that resonates with people who are often travelling and in different time zones
Build the “EMEA PS” brand and bolster it through consistent, effective communications
What type of work will I be doing? What assignments or requirements* will I be performing on a regular basis?
Collecting, creating and auditing content for the EMEA PS intranet
Pitch and draft blogs for our social platform and newsletters
Help produce engaging, interactive Town Halls (including interviews for videos)
Help maintain an updated centralised comms calendar
Contribute ideas for creative ways to communicate (we are very email heavy and would like to move away from this!)
Potentially help produce podcasts
Who is the hiring manager*? What is your background and management style? What is the structure of the team/organization I will be working with?
The hiring manager for this role is Amanda Gowland, Comms Lead EMEA Professional Services. Amanda has worked in comms for more than 15 years, primarily in tech (from big telcos to tech unicorns to not-for-profits). She is a skilled leader in internal comms, employee engagement, organisational culture, change communication and diversity, equity and inclusion programmes.
Amanda believes that the key to a robust culture is making sure that employees feel like what they do matters. This is a key focus for her at VMware, to help shine a light on the amazing work done by the EMEA PS organisation. There is much to do in her role and because the role is stand-alone, Amanda needs a go-getter to help her build the strong comms foundations needed in the org.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
Amanda reports directly to the VP EMEA Professional Services. David manages a team of seasoned leaders from across the EMEA region.You will have access to the experience and thought leadership of this team and learn about the each region’s business.
